What is Prominent Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)?
Prominent ear aesthetics, medically known as otoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to bring the ear closer to the head or to correct asymmetries in the shape of the ear. This operation, which is usually preferred due to aesthetic concerns, can be performed on both children and adults.
What Causes Prominent Ears? Prominent ears are a genetic condition and are usually caused by the ear cartilage not being curved enough or the angle between the ear and the head being larger than normal. The shape of both ears may not be the same, and sometimes it may be noticeable only in one ear.
Who Can Have Otoplasty? Prominent ear aesthetics can usually be performed starting at the age of 5-6, because at this age, ear development is largely complete. Surgery Process and Recovery Otoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes an average of 1 hour. Hospitalization is usually not required. After the surgery, the ears are wrapped in a bandage and this bandage is used for the first few days. Normal life can be returned in about 1 week. The results are permanent and the appearance of the ears becomes more natural and in harmony with the face.
